Obedient Prayers
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Here we have no lasting city,
But the one to come that we seek;
No need for us to take pity,
Since we inherit as the meek.
Through Christ we offer sacrifice,
A sacrifice of praise to God;
In return, He gives us advice,
How to avoid becoming flawed.
The fruit of lips thanks to His name,
Never neglects in doing good;
Share what you have as you proclaim,
Sacrificed to please as it should.
Obey your leaders who rule you,
And keeping watch over your soul;
In giving account to construe,
The focus of the nation’s goal.
A joyful route rather than grief,
Which would be of no advantage;
As your faith has a firm belief,
That is increasing your knowledge.
We are sure of a clear conscience,
Desired to act honestly;
Be honorable in essence,
Doing it all diligently.
I urge you to be more earnest,
That law and order be restored;
As being in the best interest,
An heirloom as our reward.
May the God of peace have again,
Brought up from the dead our Lord;
The Great Shepherd for to attain,
For His sheep be in one accord.
By His blood of the covenant,
Equip you with everything good;
An eternal life made permanent,
Well-pleasing to God as it should.
