Why do we have Superheroes?

Everyone knows that superhero’s do not exist
No matter what  age  man cannot resist
A fantasy not overlooked
In cartoons and in  books
in movies and in our minds
For  decades we’ve kept them alive
A superhero of any kind
Is simply defined
To have more power or ability
Than a man who is ordinary
When society has been hit with chaos
Their defeat will have to be miraculous
Evil causing destruction
Empowering fear as function
The superhero has the ability
to destroy the evil and bring good to humanity
Without good man cannot cope
Peace comes when there is hope
Man is reassured by this
To live his life is his purpose
So why do we have Superheroes?
Perhaps this is how it goes
To give us hope when there seems to be no hope
That’s all man needs to know

About this poem

I like watching Superhero movies. I always got a good feeling after I have seen one. As I got older I thought maybe I’m too old for these kinds of movies. But when I looked at others sitting in the theater I realized that all age groups came to see the Superhero movie. Then I noticed the affect it had on them after the movie. The same affect it had on me.
