There once was a boy

There once was a boy

There once was a boy who stole my heart,  and it didn’t take long,  it happened from the start

From the first movement, from the first cry, from the first touch,  And I knew why

God said he’s yours to take care of for now; and all I could ask was “but how?”

God told me I’d be fine and He had no doubt; and in no time at all I knew what real love was about

When he laughed I laughed, when he smiled I smiled, when he ran I ran after him, and when he cried I couldn’t fight back the tears in my eyes

He played, he grew; he played more and he grew more! Then he would talk and touch my heart; every day he grew more smart

And as it began to feel like at the fair, all the fun and all the spinning…The ups and downs of the roller coasters took on new meaning

I begin to buckle up tighter; asking God to make this ride lighter

But as the boy grew more so did my heart, day after day he became my sweetheart

He saw my heart from the inside and there was no way I was going to exit this ride

We both had our dreams and dreamers are we, but God said the time will come when you will have to let him be

No, I said we are buckled in safely,  I got him and he has me.
It was becoming clear the things we had in common weren’t working perfectly.

We both wanted our way on any given day. I soon came to learn and remember what God had to say, when he told me I could take care of him now even though I didn’t know how

But looking back the question I should’ve asked was not how but how long would it last

The ride can never last forever it’s a lesson we learn, but looking back was never a concern

I could tell what he was thinking; the same him with me, and when he hurt I couldn’t let it be

His pain was my pain; I prayed for God to stop the rain. But with the clearing sky I know why; without the rain the flowers would never grow, Nor would Joe

In the blink of an eye that beautiful little boy was gone, that beautiful once in a lifetime has become a man. I can no longer do what I can.

That moment from the start, I knew for a lifetime he’s forever my sweetheart

And I am forever filled with joy because God let me know the gift of “there once was a boy”
