the corrupted mind.

At my lowest point, in my darkest days,
I had reached the point where my mind wandered away.
My mind had drifted so far astray
I didn’t even hear the knocking on my door,
That day.
KNOCK KNOCK rat. Tat. tat.
Wake up! The door!
There is knocking at the door!
“Your mentor, your mentor is knocking on your door.”
My mind snapped back.
My mentor? I thought.
With caution I proceeded to answer the door.
I opened to find a woman
Standing there
A woman knocking at my door.
I blinked and suddenly we were not in my house
We were not in my home
We were not on this earth.
I looked around panicked
But for only a second
I realized this strange world felt
familiar.
I look back at
“Your mentor”
A puzzled look on my face
Her smile quickly faded
“You don’t recognize this place?”
I look around again at the eerie darkened gloom
This dark cold place I’d traveled to from my room.
“Your mind, dear child
We are inside your mind.”
“Your mind is broken and corrupted”
She said.
“This is your journey to fix it”
She said.
“Your mind was such a beautiful place”
She said.
“But the world has gone and changed it”
She said.
“Corrupted with lies and half truths”
She said.
“Now it is up to you to go change it.”
I looked around shocked
This was my mind?
No wonder I was so sad all the time.
How can I fix what the world has done?
I looked back to find my mentor
But she,
 Was gone.
I started walking
in any random direction
In hopes I would find some kind
Of correction.
I needed something to fix this corruption.
Then suddenly I ran into
My best friend.
She joined me in my journey
about
half way through.
Unfortunately
For me though
She didn’t have a clue.
At least she would stick by my side
Stick by me
As a constant
consistant
Ally.
We wandered and wandered
And wandered
For days.
To find nothing but gloom in
This dark cold place.
I scream into the
Darkness.
IS THIS THE END?
The words echo back
?DNE EHT SIHT SI
Ding!
A light goes off in my head.
An idea i had.
The echo was backwards
So was my mind.
It was the truth we seek
The truth we must find.
Suddenly
A snake. Slithered around
My feet.
“Lies.”
It whispered.
“The truth won’t set you free
Over there,
That magical fruit you must eat”
I turned to my friend
My constant companion
Only to find she had already eaten
The fruit
The fruit lay by her side.
It layed by her side
where she had died.
I wanted to mourn
but i had to go on.
To set my mind free
I had to go on.
You sneaky trickster! I shout.
The words are silent
Though
I can’t get them out.
I try to scream
louder and
LOUDER
Nothing comes out
I try
harder and
HARDER
nothing.
just the snake and the abyss
The ground starts to shake.
And I start to run
faster and
FASTER
I look back to see the ground
CRACKING BEHIND ME
The crack getting
longer and
LONGER
coming towards
ME
It’s opening wider and
WIDER
Like the great ocean
Like the sea.
It swallowed my friend up
behind me.
I run
And RUN
But it’s no use.
The ground catches up to me
It swallows me.
and i fall.
and fall.

beep.
beep.
beep. beep.
My eyes slowly open
Open to find myself
lying in a bed
Not my comfy
familiar bed from home
One surrounded by machines
And monitors.
I realize around me I feel an embrace.
I look
I see my mothers face.
“Thank you God! You're awake!
We almost lost you
We thought you had
died.”
died
died
That word echoed in my mind.

About this poem

This poem is up to many interpretations. The main interpretation I believe about my poem is that as children we are are innocent and shielded from the world. Our parents protect us. But as we get older we are introduced to more and more of the world. Which exposes us to all of the corruption in our world. That corruption eventually infects our brains and causes us to think in completely different ways. It can cause us to become depressed, anxious, view the world in such a dark way we can even become suicidal. The main character in my story gets into a car accident and ends up in a coma. Her best friend was also in the car, who we find out later in the story, had died in the car crash. Whether the car accident was a result of suicide and depression is up to interpretation. While she is in the coma we travel to an alternate universe which is her mind. We find how corrupted her mind has become over the years and travel through the dark eerie mind of our main character. When she wakes up t
