My Loves Horror Story

Oh I wish I could've realized sooner
How I'd be
How I'd eat up
Anyone who got close to me
How I'd fall to hard
Or not at all before leaving
Because how could
I believe someone truly loved me?
Lying to their faces
Was always easier then accepting
That maybe deep down I wasn't ready
So I ate them whole
Bones and all
Every love confession, every soul
I was this unstoppable force
I was this mess
A hunger
That couldn't be satisfied and yet
Oh I wish I would've realized sooner because
By the time I
I realized the cracks were there
It had already leaked out in front of my eyes
And I'd be left, at the end of the day,
Empty
All over again.

About this poem

There was a time in my life (and I think maybe everyone's) where I was so focused on being seen, being appreciated, being loved that I'd take anything handed to me, because sometimes, when we're in a season of not knowing our worth on our own, we want the idea of love so bad we hold onto to the closest thing we can get to it, no matter the cost, even if it's not real or not going to last and that's what this poem is about. My realization of that in my life.
