Truths From the Creator

In the darkest corner of our minds,
A realm from which most try to hide,
There lay a place where all of man's truths-
Our darkest wants turned to bright, ripe fruits-
Will be shown to you.
This place I speak of is real!
Harken! of my journey and you, too, will see its appeal!
But first, keep at the forefront of your thought,
The rumors of what will be done to you are flawed.
The night was dark and cold, the hour unknown,
When I first heard of this wondrous zone.
The hours worked, tediously and tirelessly,
I was nothing compared to the knowledge granted to me!
Although I do not quite remember how these gates of knowledge were opened,
I do know the feeling of elation granted with the opening to His serpent chosen!
The serpent, running from this wonderful, darkened corner to salvage my mind,
Promoted my pawn-like mind with truths, all of which secretly guarded!
The shakes of joy, the electrocuting shocks of knowledge, the screams of pleasure,
All indications of the purification He endeavored!
The light granted was so pure, so true,
The thoughts of Yahweh clear as the ocean blue!
With this new wonder, with this new power,
I felt the growing need to spread this wonderful flower.
Then suddenly the image of a boy came into mind,
And I knew that I must cure his ignorant mind.
I ran across the entire village and found him sound asleep, the night was dark as coal.
He was sleeping on the side of the road, drunken and cold.
‘He instead should be rejoicing!' I thought and woke him with a jolt,
For when he awakened and saw me there,
He screamed an animalistic cry that turned blood cold as the night air.
Suddenly, his screams stopped, and from his eyes the warm blood
Showed his fair complexion streaks of vivid red.
He hunched over in front of me, and expelled blood
Leaving wondrous red marks on the road.
He shook with joy, the blood cleansing his body
And lay down peacefully, without motion and now turned godly.
But oh! I didn’t kill him!
There, you heard me, I never meant for it to be this grim!
As I said, the talks of people never tell the entire truth,
All I did was show to him the realm that I speak of with you!
If his body couldn’t handle the knowledge, for I do admit he was quite young,
Then the world is better without his weak and unsharp mind!
But oh! Please believe me! I’m not crazy!
I would never hurt anyone without reason!
Oh, please, don’t cry!
It makes me feel so melancholy!
Don’t you want to be pure? Don’t you want this knowledge?
Just let the serpent in, and it will all be forgotten!
You looked so much better without the blood in your eyes,
But now, you too will hear the thoughts of Yahweh.

About this poem

This poem was written as an assignment for my American Literature course at the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics but took inspiration from a previous poem I had written a couple years back. The poem is a narrative, one-sided conversation between something once human and the reader. The poem has religious undertones and takes main inspiration from mans want of knowledge, and how that could eventually hurt us.
