The Momentary Daddy

My airplane landed and finally,
I'd traverse the concourse be home by three.

A tug on my pant leg I turned to see, a tearful child looking up at me, crying daddy, daddy!

Words aimed at me never heard before,
My heart jumped wildly then fell to the floor.

As her brown eyes met mine momentarily, I had found the daughter who would never be.

That moment so solemn yet fleeting,
That moment that my heart stopped beating.

The look when she knew I'm not him,
That moment of sorrow so grim.

Her countenance changed she ran madly,
Alone in my grief, she found daddy.

She leapt with great joy to his arms.
I smiled through my tears thankful she wasn't harmed.

Many questions unanswered in this childless state
In heaven assurance all tears dissipate.
