I Was Alone

I walk down the street and no one notices me.
In my house, no one calls
All my friends and family are now all gone.
I feel alone and lonely.

Then, I remember words heard so long ago,
"The Kingdom of God is within."
So, I look within and I find my help, hope,
and new happiness -- the answer to loneliness.

I find joy when I reach out to others.
I find happiness when I give a bit of
happiness to someone else.
It is in giving that we find joy and strength.

Then, we are no longer alone.

About this poem

When we get old, we become invisible. And, many times, we have lost our family and friends. Life becomes a lonely endeavor. Of course, this can happen at any age. This poem addresses the feeling of being alone all the time.
