Farewell My Love

Ink-stained fingers grip the page,
Tremble 'neath the shellfire's rage.
Dust and smoke obscure the sun,
Time is slipping, shadows run.

Crumpled trench, my resting place,
Death whispers 'cross my bloodied face.
Enemy eyes, like vipers cold,
Watch and wait, their grip to hold.

But fear, it flees before your smile,
Your voice, a balm in this defile.
Memories dance, a tender fire,
Whispers of love, our souls' desire.

From sunlit days in fields of rye,
To vows beneath a twilight sky,
Each kiss, each laugh, a precious gem,
Shielding me from this hell's cold stem.

Forgive the blood upon my hand,
The stains of war, across the land.
Forgive the battles I couldn't win,
The dreams unlived, the path within.

Hold tight our child, his laugh, his eyes,
In them, our legacy still lies.
Tell him tales of hope and grace,
Of love that lives beyond this place.

No tears, my love, let courage mend,
This love won't end, it will transcend.
Though miles may lie, and shadows fall,
I'll see you soon, beyond it all.

So dry your eyes, let sunlight gleam,
Remember joy, not this last dream.
For love's a bridge, forever strong,
Carrying me where I belong.

This tattered page, a final thread,
Whispers "I love you" 'til I'm dead.
In every star, in every breeze,
My love for you will find its ease.

Farewell, my love, my guiding light,
I close my eyes, and greet the night.
Remember me, with smile and grace,
In love's embrace, forever yours, I pace.

The pen falls silent, ink runs dry,
A soldier's breath, a whispered sigh.
But love's embrace, it shall remain,
A love that death cannot detain.
