Before the Fade

Manuel Santos, Jr 1973 (United States)

I am sliding like lava.
Violently drifting.
Chaotically shifting.

I am drowning like frozen words.
Cracking under the dark years.
Petrified under limestone tears.

My heart slowing resisting.
Under a glass moon, I find
myself anti-reflecting.

Shapeless hands find me sleeping.
Pearl black eyes pushing back
on all the weeping.

Winter rain keeps me from
all the unwanted reality.
Icy wind carries my self inflicted
mockery.

Treacherous as I ever been but yet
stifled by the normalcy of growing old.
Love will find me despite the very end,
so I've been told.

Quiet nights have long disappeared.
Half smiles and hello's I keep trapped
in my frost bitten beard.

I don't how much longer I can hold
onto to my art.
Perhaps it's time for a restart.
