Echoes

Echoes of silence
blown upon the wind
whispers that unheard
steals the words away

flying dust touch
slide across the skin
etching paths of coldness
yet nothing does remain

heartbeats surge with fullness
then empty fades away
whispers of the memories
yet nothing does remain

pale moonlight could
slip through the darkness
yet dimmer stars
might softly glow

dampness lies lightly
nipping chill bites
warmth not known
was it ever there

pathway lost led
did footsteps follow
was there once beginnings
or only lost ends

stirs now the shadows
where darker lies
fears there linger
knowing not why
