Poetry Brought Me Back To Life
By Robert T. Davenport
In the depths of despair, I once did reside,
Lost in the darkness, my spirit denied.
But poetry, oh poetry, you came to my aid,
With your words so profound, my soul was remade.
You whispered of hope, in verses so pure,
Guiding me gently, my spirit to cure.
With each line I read, a spark was ignited,
A flame in my heart, no longer benighted.
Through metaphors and similes, you painted a scene,
Of love and of loss, of what could have been.
You showed me the beauty in life's simple things,
In the laughter of children, the joy that it brings.
You taught me to see the world through new eyes,
To cherish each moment, to embrace the sunrise.
With your rhythm and rhyme, you danced in my mind,
Awakening passions I thought I'd left behind.
Through your verses, I found solace and peace,
A sanctuary of words, where my pain could release.
You gave me a voice, when I couldn't speak,
A refuge of emotions, where I could seek.
Poetry, you brought me back to life,
With your power to heal, to mend the strife.
You showed me the strength that lies within,
To rise from the ashes, to let my soul sing.
So I'll forever be grateful, to the art that you are,
For pulling me out of the depths, from afar.
Poetry, my savior, my guiding light,
You brought me back to life, with all your might.
