Free verse
When the wind blows brisk,
The dry, cold leaf tugged away,
Torn from its delusion of eternity,
Lying lifeless on barren earth,
Was it ready?
When the fly, unaware,
Lies captured in seductive strands,
Huntress, licking her lips,
Confines him in silken tomb,
Was he ready?
When the rose begins to fade,
As her drapery droops low,
Her strength hunches in weakness,
Beauty and folly outlived,
Was she ready?
When the images darken,
While memories of daylight slip away,
Populations grope in blindness,
Waiting for morning,
Were they ready?
As the autumn descends,
When the innocent caught,
When the lovely abandoned,
When the night complete,
Are you ready?

Sean Taylor writes short stories, novellas, novels, graphic novels and comic books (yes, Virginia, there is a difference between comic books and graphic novels, just like there's a difference between a short story and a novel). In his writing life, he has directed the “lives” of zombies, super heroes, goddesses, dominatrices, Bad Girls, pulp heroes, and yes, even frogs, for such diverse bosses as IDW Publishing, Gene Simmons, and The Oxygen Network.
