This Light I Pray”
“This Light I Pray”
Strolling near the water’s edge,
toes cooled by sandy wet caress
I looked out on a painted sky,
that silenced my mind’s noisiness
Purples, pinks, and orange hues,
jeweled canvas did my eyes delight
And scent of ocean salt and brine,
did softly on my skin alight
A caramel sun bade me farewell,
as seagulls cried their sad goodbyes
And underneath a blue moon’s watch,
tears tumbled from my tired eyes
I came upon a rocky wall,
that stood between the sea and sand
I laid my weary body down, and
slept much longer than I’d planned
I woke to sunlight on my face,
that warmed the chill away from me
Seagulls screeched a feeding song,
and fluffy clouds shadowed the sea
But no more were the noises hushed,
nor sunset’s masterpiece in sky
The moon rushed off on morning trip,
and sand between my toes was dry
I turned to face from where I’d come,
and headed back along the coast
In distance, all looked just the same,
as when I left in search of hope-
The canvas bare, no colored hues,
to soothe the soul nor noises calm
I journeyed further passed that place,
until I saw a light beyond…
A light that waited high atop,
a mountain bathing in the sea
I took off running faster than,
the fastest I could ever be!
I swam upon the ocean waves,
that brought me safe to mountain’s shore
Then climbed up to its lofty peak,
-and never wandered anymore
Each day an azure sky above,
at sunset colored gems shine bright
In blackened skies the sparkling stars,
quickstep till sunrise chases night
A sea of multi-colored blues,
glimmers in the sun’s warm glow
Gentle swells that kiss the shore,
sing soothing lullabies below
From that radiant place all is imbued,
with love each hour of each sweet day!
My heart delights, my soul at peace-
for all the world, this light I pray
About this poem
My mind and heart have been flooded with the pain and suffering of so many in our world. This poem depicts my search for an end to the suffering and for individual and world peace. Immersing myself in nature brings me comfort and I hope my poem brings you comfort, and hope, as well.
