They Love Me

I tell myself they love me it’s why they do what they do,

they care about my weight so they limit my food,

They care about my future so they tell me where to go,

They care about my past so they laugh and makes jokes,

They care about my feelings so they demand a different version,

They ask how i’m doing but only to ensure i’m not a burden,

Now it’s seeped into the youngest generations,

This wasn’t what god intended when he made all of creation,

lifelong habits hard to shake,

permanent for the developing brain,

hundreds and thousands scared to show their face,

for fear of mockery and prejudice from a picture perfect race,

this is the price we pay for ancestors out of touch,

with themselves and their bodies. Enough is enough.
