The paths of the future seem winding and long, but for people like me the future is gone. For a full life betrayed us and numbered our years, so no sound of laughter ever reaches our ears.

To know when and how your death will take place, may open your eyes into life's ugly face. For once you will notice the presence of sin and say to yourself, it will soon end.

There are times in our life when joy covers our tears, but the question still lingers, Will this be the year?

About this poem

I wrote these words in 1967 in the 7th grade; dealing with my feelings being raised in a religion preaching the end of times. I didn't really understand then how bad it was troubling for me.
