The Highest Summit

You said the view is breathtaking
At the top of the highest summit
You said it’s where hope lives and where dreams are scripted
That the air is pure and the water clear
That I can build a home there
Your words are slippery and steep, but I climb them anyway
The wind is cold and numbs my throat as I breathe in
I’m mute and frozen
You didn’t say I might fall
And that the ground below is unkind
I’d fall to my death a million more times and still forget where I lost grip
