Moon Pond

Geralyn Koblis 1955 (New Jersey)

Moonpond

‘Round the moonpond
Sweetgrass and  rush
Still are the katydids, all is a hush.

Night heron wings sail in the gloam
Stalk legs dangle, landing it home.
Comes ribbons and hisses
Crisp fog that kisses.
Swarming wave coils like a good witche’s boils.
Glow worms rise, praise with their light
Gone passed the loaming
Now it is night.
Pink moon allures with invisible might
To the night phlox, foam flower, opening bright.
Gray fox, racoon, possum arise
From their soft grassy beds,
Like flashlights their eyes.
All go which way
Find the moonpond display
Join the night fair, this fete
Its miracle met.
