Lovers at war

Marcus jones 1996 (Chicago illinois)

Man to woman
Woman to man
Things aren’t the same
What are the plans
Respect is gone
And the trust is dead
Why are we fighting?
There should be love in this bed
Something we use to have
Now we’re strangers
a bunch of mysteries
We made one too many mistakes
We should start over a new game
Our hearts meant so good
We’re starting to look bad
We should find ways on not turning into floods
The names we call each other
Aren’t the names our mothers gave
Stop putting each other Down
Thinking one is above or beneath
We’re on the same plane
And we don’t want to crash
We should be lovers
Why settle on fighting
Our past isn’t important
I romanticize the thought of us becoming one
Less of just being genders
More than a tribe of humans
But a symbol for the term unity.

About this poem

It’s about the differences of genders and the destruction we caused for each other and an idea of coming together.
