First Night

Cedars cease to fall like thunder
In the forest of evergreens when
Cruel men divide their plunder-
But you stole away my breath.
I saw you standing there
My tree was felled
You cut me down.

My defenses were gone-
I showed you my soul
How I’m not always all that strong.
Collecting the branches after the storm
You gathered me in like kindling for fire.
A spark was found that night
Standing out in the street with you.

You catch a glimpse of me in the sideview
The calm, cool veil
My heart sings seeing you smile beside me
The passenger seat, Nightingale.
