Cries of the City

I can hear, the sad tears that fall
The grieving hearts, mournful call
The cries of the City, now near it's end
The prayers of it's people, unheard, they send

The industrial sky now hides the loving sun,
As smoke and steam fill the skies; what have we done?
The elite in their power failed to see the storms.
They ignored the cries of the earth begging for reforms!
They ignored the people, still trying to achieve the middle
The perceived them a threat, in their efforts to give them little.

And yet, the cries of the City remain, a desperate whisper from afar
As the elites clouded minds are filled with, dollars desire.
As the cries of the City, muted, go unheard.
And prayers have now become, just a silent word.
The cries of the City fall trod, beneath the elite foot
And it dies alone, veiled in the grasp of smoke and soot
