Don’t Judge Me
When you tell your families "see you tonight" as you leave for work, you mean it.
When I tell my family that, I pray that I will and hope they believe it.
When you're scared you call me, when I'm scared, I have no one to call on.
While you sleep with your spouse, mine is sleeping alone.
So think before you judge, and ask yourself do you really know me?
I work very long hours for very little pay,
I get no respect for what I deal with every day.
Look at me and think whatever you may,
but in your time of need, know I'm on my way.
When you've watched a person die,
or you've heard a battered baby cry,
Then do you think that you could be all these things you ask of me?
No matter what I think of you, I will never fail to do my best,
I will still lay down my life for you, to this I attest.
My life for yours, does that seem fair, ask my family if you dare.
It's the career I've chosen and some still don't understand,
It's about helping others when they need that helping hand.
So stop and think before you place judgement on me,
What would you do if I judged you in your time of need?
If I turned my head or walked away based on what I see,
Who would you call, where would you go, and more importantly where would your life be?
