Pain

Alysha Lugo 1985 (United States)

As I wake, you are there at the tip of my tongue. Waiting to be let out in a scream. I try to stop it before it comes out, to only be left with just a whimper. I keep you trapped in my mind only to be let it out with a bite to my hand. Let the pain radiate somewhere bearable. In my mind, I'm screaming to let the pain go. As the day goes on, I breathe heavily to let you out. As I lay my head down, you are still there, begging to be let out. I try to keep you hidden every day at every moment. I can't and will not let it take control. I am in control. I am strong. I am unbreakable.
