Come Home

Sometimes when I lay down I forget to breathe
Or say goodbye in the morning before you leave

I'll smoke a whole pack to remember you
But I still won't be able to cry
Not hard enough at least

I can't build the house you left unfinished
But I'll sweep out the cobwebs for you
And try to make it seem like
More than cockroaches live there

The rest of you is still here with me
And I will cradle the things you left
A shirt that smells like you wore it yesterday
But I can't find you anywhere

No matter how hard I try
I cant keep fog from settling
Ash in my eyes from one too many
Makes the only tear I can manage sting

I want to know what you'd think of me
How you would feel to see me cry
I'd never do it in front of you
But God I wanted to
And I wanted you to do it too
