And Love Rushed Through the Door

Cas Wilson 1999 (United States)

I bet you're hard to get over
And that the little glass dots in your eyes
Are broken puzzle pieces of past amours
Trapped in their own perfect worlds.

You have to have burned
A lot of people in your life
And destroyed a lot of fragile illusions
That people had about you
And about themselves.

People like that are hard to get over.
They break open your world
And show you that theirs
Has always existed right alongside yours
And we have all been but blind.

You've gone through lovers
Like sorting through a bin of apples
Keeping the sweet
And tossing out the rotten
But the sweet ones rotted too.

Your world is energy
With no room for memory.
Stars begin to engulf themselves
And leaves trails of dust in their wake
To catch up with you.

I don't want to be a memory.
I want to enter and exit your world
Every day
And start again.

You're a first and a last
For fresh lovers
Graduated from childhood
Into their wide wide world
Of something they can't yet name.
You're a lesson
And I can only hope
That you will be someone's truth.
