Today

Edwin Tanguma 1966 (CA)

Today

#17   Today I had the strangest thought
         And I suddenly realized
I am not the greatest poet in the world

I was shocked to discover this
         And I started thinking about
Poems I had written before I had learned this

Although I had heard from others
That I was a darned good poet
I could not bring myself to believe these words
I still feel I am not that good
Well I didn’t know what else to say
With this, I’ll be on my way, Have a nice day

#18    I guess things are not that bad
                                                      Today
Well at least not as bad as
                                                    Yesterday
And who knows what they will be like
                                                    Tomorrow

#19     Searching for beauty
           Within the simplest of things
           Was easy today
