The Horror Of War

Yousif Ibrahim Abubaker 1986 (Omdurman)

Many tears were shed down, down, down
Much sadness covers life, life, life
Many circumstances tie hands, hands, hands
Many distances get further, further, further
Much anger spreads troubles in days, day, days
Many disasters cause weakness, weakness, weakness
Much heartbreaking cause's illness, illness, illness
Much firmness causes strength, strength, strength
Many obstacles steal smiles, smiles, smiles, smiles
Many bloodshed causes murdering, destruction and displacement
Many sad stories cause grief, suffering endless violence
Many wonderful stories teach moral lessons, stepping forward to our entire inspiration
Many divorces for huge negative reasons
Many wealth for grateful deeds
Many adventures full of risk and along struggle
You know what? We are staining in a weird dust, there is no backup, there is no justice, no court, and no law to please you
May Allah soothe your sorrow
May Allah watch over you
May Allah fill your heart with strength
May Allah grant you a swift recovery
As long as we're struggling, you are our streaming blood that runs through our
 veins, veins, veins
Daddy, daddy, daddy
You are a friend, and everything
You are the person who cares upon us
You are the person who loves us each day a much more and forever, forever, forever
Daddy, daddy, daddy
You give us a soul all of hard times, past every obstacle, thinkable Insolvent toes in our back
You are the daddy loading up to keep us unharmed, unharmed, unharmed
Wherever you are forever, in mind
Some are dying in our Sudan battlefield, where nothing’s going straight
Ceaselessly bracing
For the next pertinacious assemble
And beg that you'll be saved
I'm trusting for a peaceful season
And hesitate to wave
We are persisting for a change of luck…
And there is a success to board a port
Some haven’t found floating sea yet
We’re striving to stay unscathed
Whereas we are on our journey to a safe mole of tranquility
You are the altar of life
You are the person who is there when we need and plucks us up when we slump, slump, slump
Your ache was no longer a severe constant but a tiresome gloomy
Oppression can break, but people naturalize unpopulated surfaces
It’s rarely for us all to uphold
You taught us many things and gave
us such a big opportunity
I am grateful for all that you taught me
because that is what made me who
I am today
I have my best love for everyone at home,
at home, at home
I often live on overthinking about you all

I am yours forever
I am yours forever
I am yours forever

Daddy, daddy, daddy
Day, daddy, daddy

Oh, I'm very sorry
Oh, I’m very sorry
Oh, I’m very sorry

I wasn't around
I wasn't around
I wasn't around

While you were hurting
While you were hurting
While you were hurting

About this poem

POET’S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM: The poem was written on 20th of November 2023. This poem captured that my father has been hurt in the cold and smashed his ear. May Allah grant you a speedy recovery and good health. May Allah protect you and all the sick Muslims around the world. I left my parents behind living in constant fear of harm while struggling to cope with lawlessness, and dwindling food, water and medical supplies. Before the conflict, we were already facing great difficulties providing adequate protection and care for children due to the high cost of living caused by double-digit inflation, political unrest and climate shocks. The recent surge in violence has created new challenges, with prices of basic goods up by 40 to 60 per cent, pushing already weakened us deeper into hardship. Amid explosions and gunfire, my parents cannot work or get access to food and water. They struggle to cope, which makes it difficult for them to live in peace. I wish there would be a law to criminalize these acts and what is causing these enforced disappearances, there’s no right. No one has the right to do that.
