Shattered Hopes, Resilient Dreams

"Many speak of futures lost, of dreams deferred,
As life's harsh lessons leave invisible scars.
When youthful hope gets crushed under misfortune's load,
It's hard to trust that better days wait down the road.

The mind recoils from further hurt and disappointment.
Each blow and loss confirming life's malevolent intent,
Until the heart no longer dares to feel or want.
Safety found in keeping expectations spare and scant.

But closing off from hope, from chance, from possibility,
Is no protection, only self-inflicted tyranny.
For in walling off the bad, we bar out all the good.
And life, denied, will shrivel, no matter how we've stood.

The past can't predict all that is still left unknown.
Though storms may batter dreams, new ones will be sown.
Beyond the hurt, the loss, better fortunes may shine.
If we deny life, it’s only us we undermine.

So we must dare to dream, dare to believe once more,
Open again to life, its joy, its pain in store.
Meet each day with courage we thought had passed.
Knowing in uncertainty, our future's cast.

For none can chart the course fate's winds may yet direct.
Storms will arise, but also calms we can't expect.
The only choice we have is how to stand and meet
What lies ahead, surrendering not to defeat.

So set your sails again, though tattered, though in disrepair.
Face forward to the horizons life still offers there.
Past storms won't define all the skies left to explore.
Only in daring greatly is greatness found once more."
