Reflections on a Broken Screen of Humanity: Echoes of Innocence Lost

"Is this life just a movie, a staged production?
The scenes feel so surreal, like a twisted illusion.

The powers that be, are they complicit in killing the young?
Sanctioning violence while innocence is being undone?

Have I truly witnessed a child's body torn apart?
The horrific image seared into my mind and heart.

Do they revel and dance as people are slaughtered en masse?
Death becoming a spectacle, life worthless as glass.

When people march for their rights, is it hate they now name?
Truth and justice recast as violence and shame.

Did I watch as a child took his final breath?
His life cut short by callousness, anger and death.

Have days upon days been consumed by grieving?
The pain and the loss leaving me disbelieving?

Is this nightmare unfolding before me even real?
Or just a movie where darkness and chaos conceal?

The questions cascade, eroding my sense of what's true.
Yearning for meaning, some insight to pursue.

But the suffering continues, unrelenting in force.
Childhoods destroyed while tyrants hold course.

Can we awaken from this nightmare in time?
And reclaim our humanity before we cross the line?

The hour is urgent, we must speak and take action.
To protect the vulnerable and confront each abstraction.

That hides the truth of power's devastating cost.
Of lives ruined and futures lost.

We must push against the descent into madness.  
And restore moral clarity amidst the sadness.

Let us cling to compassion, even through the pain.
And never forget those taken, now absent but not vain.

Their lights extinguished too early from this earth.
But their spirits igniting in us a moral rebirth.

This movie of life with its cruelty and lies.
Demands we open our eyes and make meaning, not compromise.

We are the writers, directors of what is to come.
Will we stand by or decide we are finally done?

With the rampant injustice and suffering borne by the young.
The choice is ours, which future will be unsung?

I know the trauma and grief want to break me apart.
But I must make meaning and find purpose in my heart.

For those lost, those still living, and those yet to be.
The story continues, what role will you and I play?"
