In the Margins of Our Souls : Whispers Across the Void

In the void of every breath between
Words unspoken reside, letters unseen
A touch unfelt, a glance averted
Pages unturned, letters inverted
The ink ever flows, bleeding meaning
As our lives intertwine, sentences streaming
Where your words end, mine begin
In the margins our lives are hidden
In the pauses, our love lies bidden

The space grows with time, expanding
As we walk divergent paths, misunderstanding
Yet threads still connect us, however thin
Bonds we cannot sever, try as we might
In the gulf between us, emotions take flight
Yearning to bridge the gap, to make things right

As days stretch to months, the distance expands
New paragraphs written, with different hands
Yet our story continues, unfinished, unplanned
The empty space waits, aching to be filled
With words unspoken, pages unfilled
With whispers of love, once familiar, now stilled

At times the thread seems to pull taut
Threatening to break with the strain wrought
By the distance between, the words left unsaid
When silence falls between us, blank and dead
And the space becomes unbreachable, unmendable
The story incomplete, the ending unimaginable

But somehow the fibers still flex and bend
And the space between, we learn to transcend
With care and compassion, we start to comprehend
That the distance is not empty, but rather
Filled with unspoken love, the transmitter
Bridging our souls, however far apart we wander

We pour out our hearts in letters and calls
No longer caring how the other one falls
Into the role we need them to play
The space between us, no longer pushes away
But rather pulls us in deeper, makes us see
That the silence between can mean more than we know
If we let it mean intimacy, not letting go

At times words will still fail, sentences will linger
On the brink, unfinished, broken off mid-finger
The space will grow once more, uncertainty sinking
Back into the void where our battered hearts are thinking
That this is the end, the last page, the final verse
The conclusion arrived at, for better or worse
The space impassable, the bridge burned away

But again we take heart, again we essay
To relearn lost languages, find the lost way
To read meanings in silence, in space between
For distance makes room for the insight unseen
That souls recognize each other, despite the unknown words
When will meets wit, two different worlds
Overlap in the space that both separates and connects

For space makes equals of people in rows
Of theater seats, sharing laughs and woes
In silence between them, yet side by side
So too in the space between souls, feelings hide
That transcend lack of words, and speak just the same
Of care and compassion no distance can tame
For space is not empty, but filled to the brim
With emotion and longing, alive and free
No pause is just pause, each gap a new realm

So I'll breathe each void between us, each pause
As a chance to renew faith and sacred vows
That we'll learn as we walk, grow as we go
Fill each space between us with meanings that flow
From your heart and mine joined, two lives interlaced
By bonds that even silence cannot erase
For our story's still writing, the ink never dried
As into each other, we continue to pour
All the words left unsaid, and forevermore

The pause between each word, the breath between each line
Holds meaning as yet unspoken, biding time
For when we’re ready to listen, prepared to divulge
Secrets sealed in the silence, as we gently indulge
In communal comprehension, beyond voiced expression
To intuit the unsaid, this new dimension
Where space spanning souls synchronizes beating hearts
In glorious poetic prose, each playing their parts
To co-author this lifelong lyrical writ

Upon the page between us, words intersperse
Your verse flowing into mine, seamlessly converging
As day into night, tides ever surging
Back and forth in rhythmic dance
Of call and response, ask and entrance
Into inner worlds once hidden now open books
Where nothing is left unsaid if one but looks
Into the spaces between to uncover all that lies
In wait within the margins, where insight belies
That distance leaves room for meanings multiplied

Should fire sear the fragile threads between
Reducing to ash our hearts’ wildest dreams
Still the story continues, the co-authored tome
Remaining unfinished, awaiting the day we roam
Back to this book of life, this epic poem
To wring from the ruins some redemptive phrase
That salves the soul, applying meaning to malaise
Within the void unspoken solace resides
To fill the space where faith in mankind died
With bold new words and images, glorified

For life writes itself between the lines of you and I
In invisible ink, waiting for the flame
Of human compassion to reveal once again
What was thought ruined, to be a phoenix rising
From the ashes, gloriously metabolizing
The end into a new beginning, fresh and vernal
As we learn renewal comes from the infernal
Fires that forge us anew, stringing line to line
In strengthen bonds no adversity can untwine
For our story transcends time and space between

In each pause, a lifetime lies latent
A myriad of meanings as yet unstated
For into each space we pour our soul
And read therein a vibrant living whole
Of human experience, passion and dream
Distilled in the silence between extremes
Of exhilaration and despair, darkness and light
The spectrum of life in pure blinding sight
Lie hidden within gaps patiently biding time
For when we’re ready to seek and to find
The treasures secreted in space between you and I

So I honor each rift, gap and divide
As holy ground where meaning abides
In the hallowed hall of the space between
May we enter with hearts and minds keen
To glean insight from silence, of this now I sing
As joyfully we co-write, each line ribboning
Into the next, watching meanings multiply
From the void between us, no longer asking why
But seeing the space as a sign to remind
That within us lies all that we seek to find
In the now, between then and when, here within.
