The Ink In My Pen

Joy Alexander 2008 (United States)

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the thoughts that were once in my head
but are now on the tip of my tongue
itching to make it out of my mouth
As cold-hearted
Sour
Words

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the words
I wish would have never come to mind

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the judgment
I can’t seem to hide

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the words
I practically swallow to keep them
From coming out

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the feeling
Of being by myself

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the smoke clouding
Up my mind

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the the words clogging my throat
And forcing their way out of me

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the reflection threatening
To swallow me whole

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the taste of medicine
Swimming down my throat

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the words that so
Viciously forced themselves out of my body
And are now making their way to every
Unsuspecting ear in the area

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the snakes
Spitting out the words that I
Swear could never have been mine

The ink in my pen tastes bitter
But not as bitter as the their faces when they finally
Hear everything that goes on in my head

The ink in my pen tastes bitter.
