Thankless Love

Every single day I am with you…
Every… single... day... I am with you!
Overlooked
Disregarded
Do you realize what I even do for you?!
Every single day I work so hard so you can do your job
Never a mention of gratitude
I fight all day long just to keep it together
Tormented by the pressure that you put on me, day in and day out!
Every single day… I am in pain
I ache and I am exhausted
Yet I keep doing it, FOR YOU!
I don’t know how much more I can take…
The pressure is unbearable
It is not a threat and it is not because I don’t want to continue
You keep adding to the strain and pressure
And I am barely keeping it together as is
One of these days, I am going to pop
And everything will bust wiiiiiiiide open
Leaving you completely exposed!
I won’t always be there for you
But I love you, always and forever.

Sincerely,

The Button on your pants

I appreciated this poem a lot during my first read-through of all the poems this month. I hate to say it, but I see too many poems that just trauma-dump about an ex-lover or a past loved one and call it a day- it gets exhausting when you read multiple similar poems in a row. The emotional resonance of the poems dies each time and it gets harder to "reset" my palate as I move on to the next entry out of 150. To be completely honest, I started rolling my eyes when reading this one as well; however, the sixth to last line had me raise an eyebrow and the last line had me burst out laughing as I realized what the poet was doing. Thank you for providing some clever levity in my review session, I found this poem very funny, and maybe even some of its deeper messaging to be meaningful as well when taken in this context of subversion. Very fun entry, glad to have come across it this month. Keep writing!
