Shattered Reflections

Josh Estes 1999 (Winfield, AL)

In the twilight of her mind, a lady's memories fade,
Lost in the labyrinth of time, where darkness holds its sway.
Her thoughts, like fragile whispers, slip through her trembling grasp,
As Alzheimer's cruel embrace, slowly tightens its clasp.

Once vibrant and full of life, her spirit now confined,
To a world of confusion, where memories intertwine.
Faces become strangers, names mere fragments of the past,
As the shadows of forgetfulness, cast their somber contrast.

Her eyes, once filled with wisdom, now clouded with despair,
Lost in a sea of uncertainty, a constant state of disrepair.
The memories that once defined her, slip through her fragile hands,
Leaving behind an emptiness, where only confusion stands.

Her loved ones watch in anguish, as she drifts further away,
Yearning for her presence, longing for the words she used to say.
But within the depths of her mind, a flicker of recognition may appear,
A fleeting moment of clarity, a reminder of who she holds dear.

In this dark symphony of loss, her spirit fights to remain,
A testament to resilience, a flickering candle in the rain.
Though her memories may fade, her essence still remains,
A beacon of love and strength, even through the darkest of pains.
