I’d Rather
I’d rather be alone than somewhere I’m not wanted
Sometimes I’d rather go ghost than to live haunted
I’d rather be without than in a room full of riches
Sometimes I’d rather remain broken than just get the stitches
I’d rather be by myself than in a room filled with strangers
Too many times I’ve snapped due to misplaced anger
Being alone with my thoughts is what I long for
Sitting by a window and listening to the sound of the rain pour
I’d rather be heard than misunderstood
I just wanna be seen not overlooked
Sometimes I’d rather try it on my own than to ask for help
I’d rather struggle it out
Cause there’s been times when I had to go without
Devil in my head trying to fill me with fear and doubt
But against the odds I’ve flipped my deck of the hand that I was dealt
I’d rather be alone than unhappy
I’ve been in a room where nothing was funny but everybody was laughing
I’d rather have my mind expanded and learn new things
Cause staying the same just doesn’t excite me
I dream levels of dreams call it inception
First class now prayed for it and God upgraded my
blessings
Certsin things required patience and time
Alwags bet on myself I just had to stay in the
fight
I’d rather live for someone than die for them
But if it came down to it I’d do it without any questions
I’d rather stand for God than be a product of the systems
I’d rather stand alone than to be amongst fakeness
I’d rather stand tall when they choose to go low
Even if it means that I gotta ride solo
Rather be a light than to be another shadow
About this poem
This poem is about me figuring out things and shifting direction. It’s about learning to be alone and focusing on self and what’s important to life. It’s about not taking the small things for granted, but appreciating them.
