Deja vu of you

Takoda Mae 2006 (Wisconsin)

The deja vu of you
Follows me around like a shadow I cannot escape
Maybe I’m searching for you in everyone I meet
Or maybe I cannot accept that I won’t meet anyone like you
One of a kind they might say.
There may be parts in her and parts of him that are reminders of you
But only you will be you.
One person with it all.
The one person who left.
The one person who left the biggest impression on me
You follow me around like the wind on a brisk fall day
The guy over there has the same hairstyle you do
Did? Probably still do. Haven’t seen it in a while.
The guy sitting on the park bench has the same guitar you have
Had? Probably still have. Haven’t heard you play in a while.
Reminders of when you played my favorite songs to me flood my ears
The way your eyes lit up when strumming the chords.
Endless hours and hours playing and playing like nothing else in the world mattered.
The guy on the other side of the street has the same kind of dog you have
Had? Probably still have. Haven’t seen him in a while.
I still remember the day you got him.
The guy riding his bike blasts the same songs you love
Loved? Probably still love. Haven’t heard you play them in a while.
The first note that plays shoots a thought of you to my mind
These songs will forever be reminders of you
Everywhere I turn I see parts of you
A million people have a piece of you
But only you have it all.
You have you and that is it.
It follows me around like a shadow I cannot escape
The deja vu of you.
