Boy Meets Girl

                             Boy Meets Girl

All across the hard landscape, I see beauty by the score
It’s the big city, she steps near as I open the door
The wind kicks up, a wintery, blistery nature speaks
Her head turns, sweeping her hair, baring two red cheeks
Our eyes meet, she nods, and a smile appears
But I say nothing, she walks inside, around the corner and disappears

I urge my feet to move forward, but their will is greater than mine
Where are my words, why do I pause, in awe of one… so divine
Her image… stays in my mind, eyes so kind… nose so refined
Lips of affection, alabaster skin, hands of perfection
The morning sun joins me, with a smile and a warm pat on the shoulder
But it doesn’t help, my walk to work has just gotten much colder

About this poem

It's about a chance encounter between a young man and young woman at a doorway to a large building in the big city. But as in so many chance encounters that could have had an outcome of serendipity, that romantic trigger, sadly never gets pulled.
