A promise of the future
A promise of the future
By Arman Hoque
I've got too much on my mind that blessed sleep had at last put to bay.
But now it's time to stretch my legs and reach out and seize the day.
My mind begins racing as my feet they find their form;
This pill I take brings balance to extremes, but must this be my norm?
From one extreme to another, I miss the highs and do not miss the lows;
Abilify seems to balance everything into a wider range than anything else; let’s see how treatment goes.
I’ve been on pills for most my life, I’ve known treatment longer than I’ve known my wife.
At least I’m still here, that’s my biggest fear -
The things I say and do when I’m gone does not merit a tear.
There’s a cure for that, taken in a tiny pill;
I’ve been waiting my whole life for a medication to match my will.
There’s things I’d tried both off the shelf and under,
But everything I tried either numbed me or caused me to stumble still.
Now winter’s coming and the weather’s getting dark and chill.
Will Abilify able me to continue my righteous path;
Or will winter again blast through my mind with Its own righteous wrath?
No rest for the wicked, no comfort for the forlorn.
Winter makes us all skeletons in a land about to be reborn.
A promise of the future; that’s how I’ll see things through.
I’ll think more positive , making effort in all I do.
Constant vigilance is the price of freedom - freedom from despair.
I need this pill indubitably - as an asthmatic needs fresh air.
One day I’ll be strong enough to get through on my own;
Till I’m strong enough, it’s fortunate that I’ve got a pill to toss me a bone.
I’m not Yin or a Yang; I’m still defining me.
Yet I’m pretty sure for now I can’t be pill free.
This is not an endorsement of any pill of any kind.
But if you believe it is, some kind of endorsement fee would come to mind.
This is my reflection of what the docs have done to me…
And my never ending quest to be better and pill free.
About this poem
Not an endorsement cause I’ve not been paid, But an assessment of progress made.
