Sad Stars

One by one, they disappear,
these sad, uncertain stars
that once glowed for me
like distant guides,
flickering signposts.

I did find peace and quiet
in these sad stars;
I liked how hard
they tried for warmth,
for pure whiteness.

These sad, trembling stars
were all I had
when demons whispered
outside my room
and pain clung to me.

Now, one by one,
they disappear,
these sad stars:
I wave goodbye
at the inky silence.

About this poem

We all have said goodbye to what once sustained and helped us. We've all experienced the pain of letting go and changing. We all know what our sad stars are.
