Two Little Hands

When you look down at me a small child you perceive
Do think of the future or my inability
There are things I can do or imagine I can be
It’s amazing if you stop and think what two hands can conceive
With just my tiny smile and all my energy
I’ll lift the hearts of all down-trodden and in need
My short little words spoke softly bring you peace
A tiny touch from my tiny hands can bring some great to their knees
Never doubt the power I have deep in my soul
One by one I’ll change the world till these hands become old
Two little hands may be all that you see
But I promise these hands will change the world in front of me
Like a small little stream carving its way to the sea
Two little hands can change the world change the world I now see

About this poem

One Sunday while I was waiting for my wife to finish with a Sunday meeting, I decided to go sit at the piano in the chapel of my church and play. The words just flowed into my mind. This poem and related song took about one-half hour to create. Kids have a special place in my heart. This poem probably has its roots in the fact that I am the parent of 2 bio children and 6 adopted children.
