BLOOD BAYOU

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Blood Bayou is calling you
Enticing you from your home,
Hoping to make you set out
For a horrid, watery doom.

Gater-like men reside there
In the smelly, slimy dank,
Even they fear the waterway
Sticking to the mud-slick bank.

Screeching fills the night-time
Deviant avians are flying by,
Luckless fishermen tread there
Unaware they're about to die.

Serpentine horrors slithering
About the blood-soaked ground,
Then rush out into Blood Bayou
At the slightest whispered sound.

Blood Bayou is calling you
To feed abominable things,
That and stalk the muddy bank
Foul-smelling noxious beings,

Nightmare creatures hiding
On the bank in loathsome reeds,
Leaping out at innocent fishers
To perform unspeakable deeds.

Wailing fills the night-time  there
Crying fills up the daytime,
Mindless horrors slither and crawl
Throughout this blood-soaked clime.
