EYES IN THE DARK

Red eyes glowing in the dark
Watching innocents go by,
Following courting couples
Through the murky night.

Endless evil lurking nearby
In the loathsome dark,
Watching happy people
Late partying in the park.

Eyes watching the partiers
In the park, and on the beach,
Hoping some lone straggler
Will stray within their reach.

Revellers are distracted  by
Fireworks lighting the night,
Unaware of a monster lurking
A foul and misshapen sight.

Red eyes glowing in the dark
An abomination watching prey,
Hoping to capture human food
Before the coming of the day.

Hidden behind an oak tree
As Frisbee throwers squeal,
Joyously in their playing
Unaware nightmares are real.

Finally as daytime comes near
The partiers start to prepare,
For a long work to the car park
Uncautious of evil lurking there.

Most people drive safely away
At the first light of dawn,
But one or two never make it home
Their loved ones are left to mourn.
