By Choice To Choose

I had thought,
Temporarily.
By choice to choose.
I would sacrifice my wants and needs.
With a doing unselfishly,
To assist others having less experience...
In the fields of their interests.
Done I chose to show steps they should take.
On a path that would lead them,
Around corners and obstacles...
To achieve success without stress,
Or needless heartache.
Since I knew who one knows,
Is quite different than what one knows.
And which doors to knock on.
With a getting a positive response.
Especially when it comes,
To putting aside one's arrogance.
And an opportunistic ride,
On someone's coattails.
Quick to name drop.
With a imitation to falsely present,
The having of status and a wannabee prestige.

Those presentations are outdated beliefs.

I had thought temporarily,
By choice to choose.
To share my experiences.
And mistakes I had made they should not do.
Yet as time moved on.
With dreams they wished to come true,
Becoming stronger they wanted to prove...
To themselves and others too.
That they were doing me the favor.
Done to allow me to promote myself!

'Uh...say what?
I'm not one to expose how grand I can be.
Not for free.
Me?
I rather volunteer than to appear,
Over-rehearsed.
And desperate to make,
Attention grabbing entrances.'

Not to know who I do know and knew.
To think me a fool?
Because I want and choose to assist.
Without bragging or saying a word about it.

How I do what I do to get results.
And ensure something with effort,
Endeavored gets done?
Will be accomplished to see it made!
Not talked about.
Day after day after day.
My time is not to waste like that!

Even though I will admit,
Those I have heard to say I am selfish.
Self serving and self centered?
They are absolutely right.
And...
If not for them,
I could or would not enjoy...
The appetite,
I have learned from them to appreciate.
Everyday they stay away doing me the favor!
