A Neighbourhood of Deceit

Zealous Frank 2000 (Nigeria)

A neighborhood of deceit,
Dominated by death and its cousins.
A potent culture, projected and viewed wrongly
For only a few knows the way,
And yet a multitude drives the train
Dictating in languages and tenses unknown,
Introducing dread and insecurity to the being
All in the name of redemption and evangelism.

Repression colored in black and white,
like the revival was meant for the past
Free-willed and yet our freedom is hijacked
leaders are sly, members alike
A slap to the concept of due process
For with every action -
- we encounter an uneven reaction.
Though some tag it salvation; others a miracle,
I saw boldly, We're on our way to doom...

Understanding - nonexistent in our cognition
Faith is activated only in palatable situations.
An away game against reality,
However, we compete solely to benefit our belly
Difficulties fuel our scepticism towards the belief
Though we long for light, we fear its darkness.
Bigotry stand rooted in our subconsciousness
And when asked, we respond that we are Christians.
