THE "REFO"

It seems to me the “Hoi Poloi” are thirsty for addendum
And so, we must participate in one big referendum
To hand the folks who run the “joint” a moral resolution
To make a change and add some more “stuff” to our Constitution.

The temperature is rising in the hallowed halls of power
As the arguments on either side turn cynical and dour
But still were told the subject matter being thus presented
Will save us all the anguish of a future much lamented.

The media that fourth estate the “doyen of the truth”
Is salivating wildly as they sip their dry vermouth.
They agitate opinions being spawned by either side,
Until we find their shallow wrath just takes us for a ride.

So where in all the “hoopla” will the outcome of the voting
Improve the lives of anyone as all have been promoting?
And will the end result bring out a new enlightened frame
Or will divisions deep and strong bring enmity and shame?

We won’t have long to wait now for these questions to be known
And so we wait to see in which direction we’ll be blown.
They say “the vibe” is too close to declare determination
Until the votes are counted and we have a proclamation.

And so my fellow citizens of this Great Land Down Under,
The ballot box is calling, so let no person put asunder
Their inalienable right to have a democratic say
And trundle to a polling booth on this “historic day”

Remember that this exercise though painful for the Nation,
We’ve done two score and 4 times, since the founding Federation.
And though it might be painful fending Yes/No pamphlet references
At least at “Refo’s” there’s no need for “bloody” party preferences.
