Sit and wait

Raul Gudino 1976 (California)

I'm sitting
and listening.
I hear the daily grind
and hustle of the airport life.
Footsteps come and go
and the voices stray along.

I'm patiently waiting.
I have time to kill and yet I feel
like I don't because
time is of the essence.

I've somewhere to go,
I've somewhere to be.
The world is my oyster and at my feet,
yet... I've no real destiny.

People are running; they're late for their flight.
Some are dragging their luggage
while others are traveling light.

It's funny how all of a sudden
everything around me is enhanced.
What I once ignored
is now at the forefront and has me in a trance.

I'm sitting and waiting,
waiting and thinking...
things I hadn't thought of before
are suddenly invading my mental state.

Well, as I sit and wait
I'll have to sit even more
but I dare not wait
for waiting for something to happen
is the same as doing nothing at all.

About this poem

I wrote this poem after leaving my children with their mom in Mexico after our divorce. I try to embody what I feel like being all alone.
