To the one I wish I knew

Alicia Sampson 1983 (Terre Haute,Indiana)

As I sit here and stare,
I wonder wonder what happened there.
You can’t converse,
And do you want to know what’s worse?
You act as if you don’t care.
And I wonder as I stare,
Are you ever going to be there?
Do you wonder who I am and what I could be?
You mean so much, but you’re not there.
I’m growing and breathing as you know.
I am almost eighteen years old.
The way I am reflects on you.
You’d be much better if you let
the ‘me’ in ‘you’ shine through.
