The 36

Marcie Dunn 2007 (Edinburgh)

I liked it here

I liked the fog on the window and the heart that i drew slowly into the wetness
watching it melt away
I liked the collection of warm breath that heated the bus
I liked the smell of stale coffee that stained my senses
I liked the hustle and bustle of morning chats that strangers tightly held with each other
I liked the distant cars racing in the background eager to make it to where ever they needed to be

I liked it here, I didn’t want to get off

I liked the energetic red lights that coated the inside of my eyes guiding me safely to my seat

but I didn’t like the man staring at my legs
and I didn’t like the way he taunted me with his silent thoughts
I didn’t like the women who sat firmly on my coat, restraining me to my hard seat
I didn’t like the youthful boys that piled onto the bus making a ruckus that could be heard for days

but I did like it here
I loved the morning bus
