My Sun

To me you were the sun.
The center of my world.

Gazing at you was to see a most mesmerizing view,
And being seen in return covered my skin with warmth
and my mind in happiness

Until I realized that the warmth on my skin came from the fiery red burns covering my body,
Until looking at you for too long filled my eyes with blinding pain.

To me you were the sun

Because without knowing better
In letting my guard down
In forgetting the proper protection,
All the happiness and awe you brought me-

Inevitably turned into pain
