From the Fire

ELord

Narrative
Shards in the grass
Scattered pieces from a place and time
no longer defined
Like the duck decoy
Its head blackened
By soot
While through the confusion of what remains
Frogs sing in the pond
And the cherry tree still stands

About this poem

I went with my boyfriend and his mother to see her property after her house burned down. The house was bulldozed and buried but pieces of things were scattered around. All surrounded by trees and sounds of nature.
