Beholding the Celestial Things

Nahjar Williams 2022 (Trelawny)

Ode

There is a moment when man should sit,
and wait.
In silent solace, simple and sweet.
Somewhere above this mundane crawl,
and listen.
To the breath of the wind, and the secret wild things,
and feel.
Under the cool canopy of open skies, the wonderful feelings that wells up inside, as the light pierces dark sky, with blades so soft you cannot hear it rip!
And watch.
With the world at your feet as the sky pours down from above and rushes over so quickly you would never have seen it! It moves in ripples gentle, like a mother's lullaby and comes to kiss the shore, and right then! In the haze of gray and orange and pink, the sun in all its golden glory! You are made to reflect then on man's mortality.

About this poem

During my college orientation, I was made to walk up a mountain to watch the sunset, it was apart of the initiation process. It was quite rigorous but as I watched nature laughing at my complaints, I was challenged with painting the scene with words.
